Alaska Airlines continuing partnerships with local businesses
The Alaska Air Group – with airlines Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air, and pending regulatory approval Hawaiian Airlines – is continuing a proud tradition of partnering with businesses in the communities the Air Group serves to provide a quality flying experience. Previously, this was the case when it switched from Starbucks to Stumptown Coffee. In the case of Best Day Brewing, a loyal Alaska Airlines passenger in Brittney Childs reached out to Alaska Airlines via social media. As Childs explained in a December 11 Alaska Airlines statement,
“I’m excited to travel with an airline that’s inclusive and offers a drink to their passengers who live a sober life or like the taste of beer, but not the effects of alcohol. Breweries have come such a long way in making non-alcoholic beers taste good and Best Day Brewery has definitely achieved that. I like that I can enjoy a non-alcoholic beer on the ground and now, in the air when I fly Alaska Airlines.”
Or, for that matter, Horizon Air, the regional subsidiary. The air group has served premium beverages, including alcoholic drinks, for years.

Starting this December, Best Day Kölsch is now complimentary in First Class and Premium Class. Additionally, the non-alcoholic beer is available for purchase in the main cabin service on flights where full beverage service is offered.
About the Best Day Brewing Kölsch
Best Day Brewing’s Kölsch is made of water, barley, hops, and yeast brewed together without alcohol, as described on the product page. According to Food & Wine, such beers are brewed a certain way, namely,
“Originating in Cologne, Germany, the Kölsch beer technique requires fermenting with ale yeast, then finishing at cold temperatures, like a lager. The result is a style that exhibits some of the best characteristics of both categories. Kölsch tends to be light and drinkable, often with a touch of subtle fruitiness and spice like an ale but with a crisper, cleaner finish you would expect from a pale lager. These attributes make Kölsch an extremely quaffable style of beer that still has a bit of integrity and is perfect for any occasion.”
Best Day Brewing ensures the final Kölsch brew is nonalcoholic and has that West Coast spirit. The fruitiness is from Hallertau Blanc hops, while the malts are traditional Cologne.

As Todd Traynor-Corey, Alaska Airlines managing director of guest products shared in the airline’s December 11 statement,
“We are always looking for healthier food and beverage options that allow our guests to maintain their lifestyles without sacrificing the taste or quality of the product they’re consuming.”
The Best Day Brewing product is non-GMO, Kosher, and vegan, so one can imbibe without worries while flying Alaska Air Group.
Bottom line
Ultimately, as Tate Huffard, CEO of Best Day Brewing, shared in the airline’s statement,
“At its core, the partnership with Alaska Airlines and Best Day Brewing is about celebrating life’s adventure. Having our non-alcoholic Kölsch at 30k feet is about enjoying all the upside of cracking open a great tasting beer and acknowledging that when you land your journey is just beginning.”
For a Northern California brewery that has a mission of making “Beer for the fun-loving, hard-charging, adventure-seeking thirsty souls for whom good is just not good enough” – partnering with an air group of two and likely soon three airlines well-known for serving adventure destinations seems to be a good fit.
