Bonza’s debuted in Tasmania last Tuesday with the maiden flight from the Gold Coast to Launceston. As Bonza continues its mission of encouraging new domestic tourism markets, the three-weekly service is a welcome boost for tourism in both directions.

The new service will operate on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with one-way fares starting at $79.

“As Bonza’s gateway to Tasmania, we know there’s a strong demand for direct flights to Launceston from the Gold Coast, Northern NSW, and South Brisbane.” The route has proven to be one of Bonza’s most popular from the Gold Coast so far,” said Tim Jordan, CEO of Bonza.

“Families and friends reuniting with loved ones, vacationers, and first-time flyers no longer need to drive to a major city airport or break the bank to get here.”

“Today is also a big win for tourism operators on the Gold Coast, Tweed and Tasmania as we continue stimulating new markets. Forward bookings over the summer and through to early May are looking strong. Within days, we will release more flights for sale so travellers can book flights on the Gold Coast to Launceston route until September 2024,” said Jordan.

Jeremy Rockliff, Premier and Minister for Tourism, welcomed the first flight as it touched down at Launceston Airport.

“This tri-weekly service will boost the Tasmanian economy and tourism industry,” Premiere Rockliff said.

“In the summer and throughout our cooler, pristine months, Queenslanders will be able to enjoy everything our beautiful island state offers, further supporting Tasmania’s growing visitor economy and the fantastic small businesses within it.”

“This is an exciting day for Northern Tasmanians, businesses and visitors to our State.”

Launceston Airport CEO Shane O’Hare was there to welcome Bonza’s first customers to Launnie, saying the city was the obvious Tasmanian launchpad.

“As a UNESCO city of gastronomy, Launceston boasts great food and wine and is one of Australia’s best city break destinations,” he said.

“We’re also the gateway to many of Tasmania’s incredible natural wonders, such as Cradle Mountain, and these new flights will make it easier for thousands more people to explore everything we offer.”

Amelia Evans, CEO of Queensland Airports Limited, said that Gold Coast Airport was proud to partner with Bonza to launch the airline’s first Tasmanian connection.

“This is a valuable connection for both Tasmanians and Gold Coasters as it provides a direct link that’s not currently serviced by any other airline, adding 1,100 seats between the Gold Coast and Launceston each week just in time for the summer holidays,” Evans said.

Travellers are encouraged to download the Fly Bonza app, the only place to book directly.
