Summary

  • Lufthansa’s Discover Airlines adds a new Munich-Kefalonia route starting May 17, 2024.
  • The company expands summer flights with weekly trips to eleven Greek destinations.
  • Discover Airlines offers exclusive direct flights from Munich to Varna, Marrakesh, and Samos.

Lufthansa’s Discover Airlines has launched a new summer route between Munich, Germany, and Kefalonia, Greece. This announcement coincides with the carrier’s unveiling of its summer flight schedule to 23 leisure destinations from Munich Airport (MUC).

Lufthansa Group’s leisure airline has expanded its summer routes by introducing a new destination. The airline will initiate flights between Munich Airport (MUC) and Kefalonia Airport (EFL), Greece. Notably, Kefalonia is the largest island in the Ionian Sea. Operations between MUC and EFL will commence on May 17, 2024, with the airline’s designated flight number for this route being 4Y 1280.

Apart from Kefalonia, the airline will also operate 30 weekly flights to ten Greek destinations. These destinations encompass Samos, Chania, Corfu, Heraklion, Mykonos, Preveza, Santorini, Zakynthos, Kalamata, and Rhodes. It is worth noting that the airline plans to operate nine weekly flights to Heraklion and Chania.

Other holiday destinations

Other popular holiday destinations featured in its summer schedule will include Ibiza and Mallorca in Spain. The airline plans to offer 11 weekly flights to Ibiza. Commenting on the carrier’s summer schedule, Bernd Bauer, CEO of Discover Airlines, said:

“We are looking forward to taking off from Munich again this summer and expanding our presence at this important hub. This complements the Lufthansa Group’s offering in Munich and gives travelers even more choice – including to holiday destinations that were previously not served by direct flights.”

It is also worth noting that Discover Airlines will be the sole airline offering direct flights from Munich to Varna in Bulgaria, Marrakesh in Morocco, and Samos in Greece. As the summer progresses, additional destinations, such as Hurghada in Egypt and Funchal on the island of Madeira, will be added to its portfolio.

The airline will now operate nearly 70 weekly departures as part of its summer flight schedule. Previously, it exclusively operated on behalf of Lufthansa at the Munich hub. However, it now operates independently from Terminal 2 under its own flight number (4Y) and plans to station five Airbus A320 aircraft in Munich over the summer. Most of the airline’s summer scheduled flights from MUC airport will commence on March 31, 2024.
