As the most-traveled Filipina, Kach has experienced and assimilated in diverse cultures which opened her to its beauty but more so, on the history and realities of the countries and territories she has set foot in. Through traveling, she has been able to unite culture and advocacy, allowing her to extend service in making the world a better place one step at a time.

The Nelson Mandela International Day was kicked off by the South African Embassy in Manila last July 13 with an array of activities prepared for the week ahead. This annual celebration began over a decade ago with the UN General Assembly declaration in November 2009 in recognition of Mandela’s efforts and success in peace-building and democracy in South Africa. This celebration reminds us of the values of fighting for human rights, especially of the children and the vulnerable, equality, and peace.

On the 15th of July, the embassy in partnership with Apex Mining and GMA Network was able to meet with 20 seniors of the Project PEARLS through a buffet lunch and received goods from sponsors. It was attended by Mr. Luis R Sarmiento of PMSEA and Apex Mining President, Dr Selva Ramachandran, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme, and GMA Sparkle Artists Gaea Mischa and Muriel Lomodilla. The week-long celebration continued with the actual celebration of the Nelson Mandela International Day on July 18 in partnership once again with the Project PEARLS community in Tondo, Manila where 500 kids received products from sponsors ICTSI, Shoe Mart, Federated Distributors Inc., Liwayway Marketing Corporation, and Fly Ace Corporation; Mr Ralph Lim Joseph, Consul William Chen and members of the Diplomatic Corps.

In light of this heartwarming event, Kach was present on the celebration day and supported it with South Africa Ambassador to the Philippines Bartinah Ntombizodwa Radebe-Netshitenzhe. This is one of the many ways of service for the Filipinos and imbibing this year’s theme of the Nelson Mandela International Day, “the legacy lives on through you,” by actively working towards development which Kach also carries with her position as a PHL Air Force Reserve.
